Islands in the Venetian Lagoons were used since the Medieval Ages as an isolation for contagious diseases. This artificial Island built in the 19th century went through various transformations until it became a sanatorium in 1920, and now converted to become the home of JW Marriot Venice Resort & Spa.
The architect Matteo Thun transforms the island to a luxurious resort as a haven from the Venetian touristy crowd. The architect uses the raw beauty of the city with its authentic material to create a contemporary minimalist interior. The island incorporates 180 guest rooms in the former building of the hospital with an infinity pool, and 70 villas with pools spread across the island to create a peaceful setting. The architecture on the resort is spread and has a beautiful manicured garden with olive trees and trails that wind through it.
For travelers seeking for a true experience of “La Serenissima” you would live that serenity at the JW Marriot Venice Resort & Spa.
